Is Phil Mickelson playing the 2023 PGA Championship?
Phil Mickelson shockingly won the PGA Championship in 2021 at 50 years old but skipped the event in 2022. So is he playing the 2023 PGA Championship?
Amid all of the controversies surrounding Phil Mickelson and his decision to join LIV Golf last year, most notably his comments about the Saudi Arabian government and their relationship to the tour he was joining, the six-time major champion made the decision to skip the PGA Championship at Southern Hills.
That decision wouldn’t have been as shocking of Mickelson wasn’t the defending champion of the major, winning the PGA Championship in an absolute stunner at Kiawah’s Ocean Course as he captured his sixth major and second PGA crown at 50 years old, the oldest player to ever win it.
Mickelson missing the event in Tulsa in 2022, however, coincided with Lefty largely staying out of the public eye, including going quite quiet on social media. That has since started to change, though. After skipping the tournament last year, however, people are asking simply if Phil Mickelson is playing the 2023 PGA Championship.
Is Phil Mickelson playing in 2023 PGA Championship?
Phil Mickelson will be playing in the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY. He will tee off on the first hole on Thursday at 1:58 p.m. ET in the first round of the tournament, grouped with Patrick Cantlay and Rickie Fowler. They tee off at 8:33 a.m. off of the 10th hole on Friday in the second round.
Mickelson comes into the PGA Championship not having shown much form with LIV Golf but that also didn’t stop him from pulling out an impressive if not wholly unexpected T2 finish at The Masters earlier this year.
With that said, it seems as if the PGA Tour-LIV Golf tensions have subsided during major weeks, which surely plays into Mickelson’s decision to play this week at Oak Hill.
