Preakness Stakes betting payouts 2023: Trifecta, superfecta payouts
Breaking down the Preakness Stakes betting payouts for trifecta and superfecta wagers after National Treasure outran Blazing Sevens and Mage.
Coming into the 2023 Preakness Stakes, the big question for the horse racing world obviously centered around the Triple Crown. It was Mage who was hoping to come in and take the second leg of the elite three-race run after winning the Kentucky Derby on the first weekend of May, but the other six horses on the track at Pimlico Race Course were hoping to spoil the dream.
Mage, of course, was the betting favorite after the win at Churchill Downs coming into the race. However, there were other horses right there with him as National Treasure was second on the odds board and Blazing Sevens installed with the third-best odds.
Unfortunately, the Triple Crown wasn’t meant to be for Mage. National Treasure got off to a hot start and held the lead most of the race. Blazing Sevens looked to try and get the lead down the stretch with a late push, but it was just barely not enough as National Tresure got the win at the Preakness Stakes by just a nose.
The Preakness Stakes betting payouts, a concern for all horse racing fans with some skin in the game, are never as lucrative as the Kentucky Derby because of the smaller field. Still, with the way this race played out, there’s still plenty of money that was made if you hit the trifecta, superfecta or win-place-show bets at Pimlico.
Preakness Stakes trifecta payout
The 1-7-3 trifecta at the Preakness hit on Saturday. A $1 bet on that trifecta with Bob Baffert’s horse getting the win would’ve paid out $24.20. That’s not quite the nearly $1,000 that you would’ve netted from hitting a trifecta earlier in the month at the Kentucky Derby, but it’s also not anything that any bettor would scoff at taking home
Preakness Stakes superfecta payout
It was the 1-7-3-5 that hit for the superfecta at the Preakness Stakes. For that superfecta wager, a bettor putting down the standard $1 bet would’ve ended up taking home $72.40 in Baltimore. That’s a fine payout for this race, to be sure, but it’s not quite the $15K that bettors would’ve taken home for hitting the same bet at Churchill Downs.
