3 Yankees players who could join Aaron Hicks in the DFA unemployment line next

NY Yankees candidate to DFA No. 2: Jake Bauers
Jake Bauers came into Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds batting .184/.289/.342 in 45 plate appearances for the Yankees. He’ll be a guy who could see some time in left field with Hicks completely out of the picture. Yankees fans shouldn’t be too confident in him performing at a high level. Already a journeyman at 27, he has never had a major league season with a batting average higher than .226.
There isn’t a whole lot Bauers brings to the ball club other than being a bench piece. He excelled in Triple-A this season, batting .304/.448/.797 with 9 home runs and 20 RBI in his 21 games. This was more than enough for the team to promote him and see what he could do against major-league pitching. It hasn’t been electrifying. Bauers is what he is and that’s a temporary option for the team.
The addition of Greg Allen to the Yankees roster should be a warning for Bauers; even if Allen still has to earn his own spot on the team. Start hitting or face the same punishment Hicks did. Because of a much lower salary than what the Yankees will continue to pay Hicks and are currently sending to Donaldson, there should be little hesitation to pull the ripcord on him.
Bauers’ toes are already hanging off the edge of the roster. He’ll need to do something more to stay.
