Charles Schwab Challenge DraftKings picks 2023: Best PGA DFS golf lineup

Breaking down Charles Schwab Challenge DraftKings picks for the week at Colonial with top plays, top fades and building a PGA DFS golf lineup.

Even with the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge being the week after the PGA Championship and not being a designated event, there’s still quite a nice field showing up at Colonial. New World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler headlines the field but he’s joined by the likes of fellow PGA runner-up Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau, Collin Morikawa, defending champ Sam Burns, Max Homa and the Colonial wizard, Jordan Spieth.

We had a great week with our PGA DFS picks at the second major of the year with a solidly constructed lineup. Had we found a way to get Brooks Koepka in the mix, that would’ve changed things even more dramatically in our favor. Alas, it’s onto or Charles Schwab Challenge DraftKings picks to make it happen this week.

So let’s do that as we dive into this shockingly good field to make our PGA DFS lineup this week as we give out our Charles Schwab Challenge DraftKings picks with top plays and top fades from every pricing tier before we construct a winning lineup for this week at Colonial.

Charles Schwab Challenge DraftKings picks for PGA DFS lineups: Top Plays

$10,000: Collin Morikawa ($10,400) – Because he hasn’t won and because his putter has been ice-cold at times, we are overlooking that Collin Morikawa is still absolutely flushing it. He, Scottie Scheffler and J.J. Spaun are the only players in the field gaining more than 0.8 strokes on approach over the last 20 rounds while also gaining strokes off the tee and hitting more than 64% of fairways. I’m worried about the putter, but I think he should contend this week at a course that overall ideally suits where he thrives. Also Consider: Scottie Scheffler ($11,500), Viktor Hovland ($10,600)

$9,000: Tommy Fleetwood ($9,200) – Tommy Fleetwood has been one of those guys that I feel like I’m taking crazy pills with this year. I keep playing him, he keeps finishing well, and yet it feels like he’s not getting the shine that others are. I’ll stay the course, though, with a guy who is gaining strokes across the board, has spiked on approach at times, and has three straight T18 or better finishes, all at elevated events. Also Consider: Jordan Spieth ($9,900), Sungjae Im ($9,500), Justin Rose ($9,300), Si Woo Kim ($9,000)

$8,000: Rickie Fowler ($8,900) – Initially, the $8K range was a search for value. Then it dawned on me that Rickie Fowler is value because I’d have him in the above range, so getting a bit of a discount is where I’m looking. He played Colonial well when he wasn’t lost in the wilderness and, even with the missed cut that PGA, he’s been a Top 20 machine this year and his approach play has been great. Driving accuracy does worry me slightly but, overall, I think he thrives at this course. Also Consider: Denny McCarthy ($8,700), K.H. Lee ($8,300)

$7,000: Emiliano Grillo ($7,700) – There’s a chance I’m way too bullish on Grillo this week, but I love what he offers. He’s gaining 0.71 strokes on approach over his last 20 rounds, hitting 62% of fairways, but most importantly being a positive putter too over that span. So it’s no wonder he had three T23 or better finishes prior to missing the cut at the PGA. I see him bouncing back big time this week and finishing strong. Also Consider: Brendon Todd ($7,800), Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($7,700), J.J. Spaun ($7,600), Hayden Buckley ($7,300), Eric Cole ($7,200)

$6,000: Carson Young ($6,300) – What are we doing here? Carson Young has three Top 20s in his last four individual starts and has been gaining with ball striking and slightly with the putter. He also torched his US Open qualifier earlier this week. There’s no way he should be this cheap, but I plan to take full advantage of that. Also Consider: Chez Reavie ($6,900), Ben Martin ($6,800), Akshay Bhatia ($6,700)

Charles Schwab Challenge DraftKings picks for PGA DFS lineups: Top Fades

$10,000: Max Homa ($10,100) – Put simply, I really wish Max Homa had been playing better because his game at its best would make him enticing at this price for Colonial. But the fact that a guy who makes his bones will ball striking is losing 0.40 strokes tee-to-green over his last 20 rounds scares me too much to be paying into the $10K range for him this week.

$9,000: Sam Burns ($9,700) – I’m nothing if not consistent. Burns is the defending champion, but there’s no way I’m trusting him to repeat. Yes, he’s been a player who has popped at courses where he’s historically played well, but he’s hitting under 50% of his fairways over the last 20 rounds and has missed his last two cuts. Playing like that, I just don’t see how he pays off this price at Colonial with what it asks of players.

$8,000: Cam Davis ($8,600) – On the surface, I probably shouldn’t be fading Cam Davis given that he finished Top 10 at the PGA and was T7 at the Charles Schwab last year. But the fact of the matter is that his off-the-tee play has been wildly inaccurate overall recently while he’s losing strokes on approach over the last 20 rounds. I don’t buy that for him doing well this week, even at the risk of missing on him catching a heater.

$7,000: Kurt Kitayama ($7,900) – We saw Kurt Kitayama finish T4 last week and, even with a T40 at Colonial last year, I can’t buy it. His approach play is great but the driving accuracy is just wholly problematic as I think his distance had way more to do with success last week. That’s harder to accomplish at this course and, at the top of the $7K range, I’m not going to be invested in that.

• Rickie Fowler ($8,900)
• K.H. Lee ($8,300)
• Ben Martin ($6,800)

I’m in love with this build, a big part of which is due to the fact that Young is just flat-out mispriced and allows for a lot of big-money plays at the top. We’ve already talked about Morikawa, Fleetwood, Fowler and Young, which leaves us with why Lee and Martin are the plays to round out this lineup for our Charles Schwab Challenge DraftKings picks.

Lee has two missed cuts and T64 at Colonial in his three starts, but his game fits the course well and he’s gaining strokes across the board over his last 20 rounds. I like for him to find a first good finish at the place this week. As for Martin, he’s an extremely accurate driver gaining on approach and with his putter over the last 20 rounds. He seems to be a perfect fit, so I’m willing to try and find the value here.
