The Memorial Tournament DraftKings picks 2023: Best PGA DFS golf lineup
The Memorial Tournament DraftKings picks with top plays and fades for Muirfield Village and building the best PGA DFS lineup for the week.
It’s back to beautiful Muirfield Village Golf Club for the Memorial Tournament this week on the PGA Tour. As the latest designated event, there is an abundance of talent in the field, not the least of which is Scottie Scheffler, who has been unreal in every aspect outside of the putter.
Because the Memorial is one of the flagship events on the PGA Tour, we have a ton of history with this place, which allows us a lot of opportunities to see who has played well here and who is doing the things well in their current form that you need to thrive here when making our Memorial Tournament DraftKings picks.
So let’s dive into this PGA DFS slate this week with our Memorial Tournament DraftKings picks broken down by the top plays and biggest fades from each pricing tier before we build a winning lineup for the week.
The Memorial Tournament DraftKings picks for PGA DFS lineups: Top Plays
$10,000: Patrick Cantlay ($10,500) – You’d be hard-pressed to find better course history at Muirfield Village than Patrick Cantlay. He has two wins and two additional Top 4 finishes in his last five starts here. And now he comes to this place in elite form, ranking third in this field in weighted Strokes Gained: Total over the last 16 rounds. With that and his history here, I’ll skip the top guys to move down to him to start my lineup. Also Consider: Scottie Scheffler ($11,300), Jon Rahm ($11,000), Rory McIlroy ($10,600)
$9,000: Viktor Hovland ($9,700) – Looking at the projected ownership numbers, I’m shocked to see Viktor Hovland being this chalky and a little bummed. As my pick to win this week, though, I’m sticking with it. His tee-to-green play has been among the best in this field and he’s seemingly trending toward something big. Hovland’s course history in Dublin, OH isn’t great, but his improvements in the short game should serve him well at a place that, by the numbers, should suit him ideally. Also Consider: Tyrrell Hatton ($9,300), Justin Thomas ($9,200)
$8,000: Si Woo Kim ($8,000) – Quietly, Si Woo Kim has three straight T18 or better finishes at the Memorial Tournament and is trending toward doing it again. His accurate driving is an elite skill that plays extremely well at Muirfield Village and he’s also gaining 0.98 weighted strokes on approach over the last 16 rounds. He’s another guy trending and this price is too good for me to pass up on. Also Consider: Hideki Matsuyama ($8,700), Rickie Fowler ($8,500), Corey Conners ($8,300), Shane Lowry ($8,100)
$7,000: Denny McCarthy ($7,600) – We know that Denny McCarthy is one of the best putters on the PGA Tour and in the world. But recently, we’ve started to see him strike the ball better and more consistently, specifically on approach. With his accurate driving and ability to putt the lights out, it’s no wonder he was T5 here last year and I think we could be looking at another good finish from him this week too. Also Consider: Russell Henley ($7,900), Emiliano Grillo ($7,800), Harris English ($7,500), Byeon Hun An ($7,400), Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($7,200), Ryan Fox ($7,100), Hayden Buckley ($7,000)
$6,000: Sepp Straka ($6,600) – We’re starting to see shades of the Sepp Straka who was contending often last year. He’s gaining 1.63 weighted strokes tee-to-green over the last 16 rounds and has two straight Top 30 finishes under his belt. His history at the Memorial Tournament isn’t much to speak of, but I like where his game is headed and how it should fit this place. Also Consider: JJ Spaun ($6,800), Kevin Streelman ($6,700), Matthew NeSmith ($6,500)
The Memorial Tournament DraftKings picks for PGA DFS lineups: Top Fades
$10,000: Xander Schauffele ($10,200) – Everything says that Xander Schauffele is going to play well this week, which I tend to agree with. He’s striking the ball well and gaining strokes across the board as of late and has four straight Top 18 finishes. But having him in the $10K range is just too rich for me because none of those finishes have been inside the Top 10. There is higher upside in the $9K range and perhaps just as high of a floor too, so I won’t be paying up for the X-Man.
$9,000: Jason Day ($9,400) – Frankly, this price is inflated because of the win at the Byron Nelson. His other two starts in his last three were missed cuts and his overall play has not been on the level statistically in terms of strokes gained. He’s the only player in the $9K or $10K range not gaining at least 1.50 weighted strokes total over the last 16 rounds. I won’t buy in on that in this range with the elite talent around.
$8,000: Sam Burns ($8,600) – Sam Burns proved me wrong a bit for fading him last week, but I’m learning precisely zero lessons. Burns hasn’t been great tee-to-green for some time now and it consistently shows up on courses just like this one. A T50 in 2021 is his best finish at the Memorial in the last five years, so there’s not even good course history to fall back on. With missed cuts at Oak Hill and Quail Hollow, I think we’re more likely to see that again than another good finish.
$7,000: Billy Horschel ($7,500) – No shot I’m playing the defending champion, Billy Horschel, this week. He has a great history at Muirfield Village, but the fact of the matter is that he’s been extremely inaccurate with the driver this season and has been losing strokes on approach all year as well. That’s a recipe for a bad time at this place, so I will have zero investment in Billy Ho this week.
The Memorial Tournament: Best DraftKings golf PGA DFS lineup
- Patrick Cantlay ($10,500)
- Viktor Hovland ($9,700)
- Si Woo Kim ($8,000)
- Denny McCarthy ($7,600)
- Harris English ($7,500)
- Sepp Straka ($6,600)
We were able to get all of the top plays for each pricing range into this lineup, which you have to like quite a bit this week based on the numbers, fit and how these guys are playing.
And that leads us to the addition, Harris English. Early in the year, English was clearly shaking off rust and geting healthy again. It seems like he might well be back. He missed the cut at the PGA but has been T13 or better in the other three of his previous four starts. He’s also gaining 1.48 weighted strokes on approach over the last 16 rounds and is just playing well all around. I love for him to keep up that good form, especially when he was T13 here in 2020.
