28. Pete Carroll – Seattle Seahawks

Last season, Pete Carroll would have been quite high on this list. The Seattle Seahawks said goodbye to Russell Wilson, a player who led this franchise to its best run in history. They were handing the reigns to Geno Smith, a failed New York Jets draft pick that was just trying to find backup jobs. The Seahawks were expected to fight for a chance to draft Bryce Young. They ended up coming close, but not because of their own draft pick. It was the Broncos’ draft pick that was almost number one.

Carroll led the Seahawks to a surprise playoff run with an interesting roster that pushed teams every week. It wasn’t always pretty, but it was effective. Smith became a Pro Bowler. Kenneth Walker found a spot as a future superstar. The offense was rolling, ranking ninth in the league with 23.9 points per game. The defense was timely, recording 25 turnovers.

Give credit where credit is due, Carroll got the most out of this roster. They were supposed to be a bottom dweller, and he took them to the playoffs. Smith returned, and Carroll and the Seahawks brass built around him.

Will the wheels fall off this season? Maybe, but Carroll seems safe no matter what. After facing his career’s possible end last year, it seems like the 71-year-old’s time in the NFL will be up to him.
