RBC Canadian Open picks and best bets at Oakdale this week as we have an outright, Top 10 and more PGA Tour expert picks for golf.

We’re heading north of the United States border for a national championship this week for the 2023 RBC Canadian Open at Oakdale Country Club, where Rory McIlroy is the two-time defending champion on the PGA Tour. Of course, his back-to-back victory were three years apart as COVID-19 saw the cancellation of the event in both 2020 and 2021.

McIlroy, who was the co-54-hole leader at the Memorial last week but fell back on Sunday, is in the field again as the heavy, heavy favorite for the RBC Canadian Open. However, guys like Tyrrell Hatton, Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood, Sam Burns, Matt Fitzpatrick and more are ready to take the crown from him.

Before we get into our RBC Canadian Open picks, though, we are riding high with our PGA Tour expert picks. After hitting the longshot on Emiliano Grillo at the Schwab, we hit our second straight outright with Viktor Hovland while also cashing in on Rickie Fowler for a Top 10 (with a slight dead heat) and Si Woo Kim for a Top 20. It was a big +11.8 units for the week, which has us back in the green for the season comfortably.

Let’s keep it going, though, with our 2023 RBC Canadian Open picks for this week with PGA Tour expert picks for Top 10, outright winner, One and Done and even more best bets for the tournament in North York, Ontario.

Golf betting record in 2023 through Memorial: 32-87-2, +5.756 units (2-24 on outrights, 0.5 unit bets | +11.8 units at Memorial)
One-and-Done record in 2023: $7,732,685.65 (Scottie Scheffler at Memorial, $1,400,000)

PGA Tour expert picks for RBC Canadian Open: Winner, Top 10, One and Done

Top 10 Pick for the RBC Canadian Open: Tyrrell Hatton (+140, DraftKings)

Tyrrell Hatton continues to play phenomenal golf despite not winning. He leads this field over the last 20 rounds in weighted strokes gained, and is more than a half-stroke better than second place (Matt Fitzpatrick) over that span as well. With no finish worse that T15 in his last four starts that include two designated events and a major, Hatton feels like a phenomenal Top 10 pick, even if we wish the odds were a bit better.

Pick to Win the RBC Canadian Open (0.5 Units): Shane Lowry (+2000)

Shane Lowry has been a bit quiet overall this season but has popped recently with a T12 at the PGA and T16 at Memorial, the latter of which could’ve been better if not for an awful Friday round. But he’s fourth in this field in weighted Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green over the last 20 rounds and seems to be trending in the decidedly right direction. With that, I’m all over him in this field to get it done in Canada.

One and Done Pick for the RBC Canadian Open: Carson Young

Carson Young should start to be a household name soon enough. He’s been finishing inside the Top 20 more regularly than you might think and his play has been stellar statistically too. We’ll get into that more and just a second, but I’m quite comfortable rolling the dice slightly here with him as a One and Done play in Canada.

RBC Canadian Open picks and best bets

Carson Young to finish Top 20 (+500)

This is a criminally low price on Carson Young and I’m jumping all over it. He’s the One and Done pick for a reason too. Young ranks 11th in this field in weighted Strokes Gained: Approach over the last 20 rounds while also gaining comfortably off the tee and with his putting. He’s also finished T21 or better in four of his last six starts. He’s absolutely trending and, having already qualified for the US Open prior to Monday, he should be well suited to take advantage of a relatively weak field.

Ludvig Aberg to finish Top 20 (+250)

Aberg began his week on Monday still in Canada trying to qualify for the 2023 US Open. He came up short but played well and now comes to a course in Oakdale that should suit him. Fresh out of Texas Tech, Aberg is one of the best overall drivers of the golf ball out there right now, which should put him in a great spot. His talent is immense and I expect him to have immediate PGA Tour success in the same veing of Hovland, Morikawa, Tom Kim and so on.

Doc Redman to finish Top 40 (+240)

We haven’t seen much from Doc Redman this season, or at least much good form. But of late, he’s been trending, gaining about 1.0 weighted strokes with his ball striking over the last 20 rounds and also has two Top 30 finishes in his last four starts. Redman’s ball striking should serve him well and I’m willing to take a safe-ish play on him to finish Top 40 at these odds.

Longshot pick to win the RBC Canadian Open (0.1 Units): Carson Young (+14000)

We’re staying on the Carson Young train for Carson Young week, apparently. He’s not one of the big names but, with how well he’s been playing this season, there’s no way that his odds should be at this height. We’re sprinkling on that out of obligation more than anything.
