MLB schedule: Are the Yankees and Phillies playing tonight?
By Scott Rogust
There is now an official update on the status of Wednesday’s New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies games, which are affected by unhealthy air quality.
The northeast of the United States is dealing with major air quality concerns. That is because smoke from wildfires burning in Canada has entered the area. With that, the air quality has reached unhealthy levels for nearly everyone, and is especially dangerous for those with underlying health conditions. Not to mention that the skies are a burnt orange color.
On Tuesday night, the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies played their games against the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers, respectively. The air quality has not gotten any better, and it will get worse by the time the Yankees-White Sox and Phillies-Tigers begins. Not to mention that the skies at Yankee Stadium were ominous.
With that, fans and teams waited for an official word from MLB about whether the games will be played, or if they will be postponed.
Are the Yankees and Phillies playing June 7?
At around 4:30 p.m. ET, reporters shared word that both the Yankees and Phillies games have officially been postponed due to the air quality.
For the Yankees, they will now play a doubleheader against the White Sox on Thursday. The first game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET, while the second game will begin at 7:00 p.m. ET. Check the Yankees’ official statement below to get a better understanding of the ticket situation.
The Yankees are set to host the Boston Red Sox on Friday, while the White Sox are set to return to Chicago to play the Miami Marlins.
As for the Phillies, they will play their series finale against the Tigers on Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. ET. Gates at Citizen’s Bank Park will open at 4:35 p.m. ET.
Thursday was scheduled to be an off day for both the Phillies and Tigers. Philadelphia is set to host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, while the Tigers will travel back home to host the Arizona Diamondbacks.
