The Belmont Stakes purse and payout is lower than the other two Triple Crown races but the prize money is still a significant chunk of change.

The 155th running of the Belmont Stakes will put a new name in horse racing history and fill some pockets to the brim.

While the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes have a bigger purse, the Belmont still has $1.5 million ready to be spread among the field of nine horses.

UPDATE: Archangel surprised the field by taking the Belmont Stakes victory over favorites like Forte, Angel of Empire and Tapit Trice.

That means the horse owned by Blue Rose Farm, trained by Jena Antonucci and riden by Javier Castellano has secured a giant pay day for everyone involved.

Here are the payouts available in 2023, here’s what we expect.

According to The Sports Daily, the purse of $1.5 million for 2023 will remain the same but the payout percentage for the victory is increasing from 53.3 percent to 60 percent. The top eight horses will see a percentage split by finish position, with second place taking home 18 percent, third place getting 10 percent and so on.

The 2022 winner of the Belmont Stakes, Mo Donegal, commanded $800,000 in winnings. The 2023 winner will take home $100,000 more than that, with shares for second and third place remaining mostly unchanged. However, the bottom five finishers will see considerably less money.

Last year, eighth place Golden Glider got $30,000. The horse in the same position in 2023 will receive $15,000.

The winning jockey will enjoy 10 percent of the winnings, which should come out to $90,000.
