Is Tiger Woods playing in the 2023 US Open?
The 2023 US Open at Los Angeles Country Club will have all the stars in golf in the field, but will the legendary Tiger Woods be playing among them?
Tiger Woods has a long history with the US Open tournament. In his illustrious golf career, he’s played the event 22 times and has some iconic victories from it. Having said that, while Woods has won The Masters and PGA Championship five and four times, respectively, the US Open has only been captured by Tiger on three occasions: 2000, 2002, and 2008.
Now the 2023 US Open is heading to Los Angeles Country Club for the first-ever major championship hosted at one of the best golf courses in the country. All of the stars in the game of golf in this modern age will be there with Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and so many more ready to tee it up.
However, that has fans wondering if the biggest star golf as ever seen will also be there. Specifically, will Tiger Woods be in the 2023 US Open?
Is Tiger Woods playing in the 2023 US Open?
Sadly, Tiger Woods is not in the 2023 US Open. On May 22, just less than a month before the tournament at LACC, the USGA announced in a statement that the 15-time major winner was withdrawing from the event after undergoing surgery on his foot and ankle. Woods also missed the PGA Championship as a result of the surgery. There has still not been a timetable revealed for his eventual return.
When will Tiger Woods play again?
The fact of the matter is that, with the uncertain timetable, we don’t know when Tiger Woods will play again. His goal entering the 2023 golf calendar year was to play all four major championships. but his injuries flaring up and resulting in surgery ultimately put that to bed.
Given that he’s now 47 years old and with a myriad of injuries over the past few years, it would be wise to expect Tiger Woods to take as much recovery time as possible. The Open Championship feels unlikely for him in July, but perhaps playing at The Masters in April 2024 is a much more likely target date that we could see Woods again.
