Guardians vs. Padres prediction and odds for Wednesday, June 14
By Josh Yourish
They are still 32-34, but the San Diego Padres might have found the missing piece. Last night the club scored a 6-3 win over the Cleveland Guardians at home in the series opener behind a three-run home run from Gary Sanchez. San Diego has won four of their last five and have a chance to win the series today with Michael Wacha on the mound.
Wacha will be opposed by 2-1 Aaron Civale who has a 2.31 ERA in his four starts this year. Wacha comes into his 13th start at 6-2 with a 3.18 ERA. In Game 2 the Padres are favorites over the 31-35 Guardians.

Guardians vs. Padres prediction and pick
Gary Sanchez has been an absolute revelation for the Padres since joining the team. The team is seventh in OPS and 10th in runs scored in June in large part because of Sanchez and his six home runs and .981 OPS in 47 at-bats since joining the team. This looked like a lineup stocked with power, but they are 13th in home runs with 77 this season even behind the no-name lineup of the Giants in their own division.
Not only did San Diego load up in their lineup they also added to their pitching staff this offseason and at least Wacha is really paying off. Last time out Wacha went six scoreless against Seattle to lower his ERA to 3.18 and he now has 64 strikeouts in 68 innings.
While Wacha has been good I’m going to back both lineups in this matchup. Aaron Civale hasn’t been as good as his 2.31 ERA would indicate with just 15 strikeouts in 23.1 innings. I think Sanchez and San Diego can get to him, but I also think that Cleveland’s lineup which is top 10 in OPS this month can do some damage against Wacha. In the last week, nobody in baseball has been better than Jose Ramirez with his 1.793 OPS and four homers in 18 at-bats.
