Leaky Black agrees to two-way deal with Charlotte Hornets
After going undrafted, former defensive star and North Carolina small forward Leaky Black has agreed to a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets.
For the last two months, Leaky Black has been training under Gilbert Abraham who has worked closely with former North Carolina talents such as Justin Jackson, and Raymond Felton years prior.
Prior to the NBA Draft, Black worked out for 11 teams.
Now, after going undrafted, former defensive star and North Carolina small forward Leaky Black is getting his chance in the NBA with his hometown team, having agreed to a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets.
The Concord, North Carolina native is the record holder in games played with 155 at North Carolina. Black is also just one of five Tar Heel players to have more than 600 points, 500 rebounds, 200 assists, 100 steals and 50 blocked shots in four or fewer seasons, joining the likes of names such as NBA Hall of Famer James Worthy and Danny Green.
The forward garnered ACC All-Defensive team honors twice and finished as a runner-up to the ACC Defensive Player of the Year award this past year. Black is fresh of his best season where he scored 7.3 points and grabbed 6.5 rebounds per game.
That includes a strong defensive showing where he locked down and frustrated Alabama’s Brandon Miller into 4-of-21 for just a meager 14 points. Coincidentally, the two are now teammates after Miller was selected No. 2 by the Hornets in the NBA Draft.
“I can’t say enough about Leaky,” Said UNC coach Hubert Davis prior to the draft per 247 Sports. “He’s just the type of kid that you want to coach, and you want out there on the floor, and I love him very much.”
Although Black’s shooting percentages were down this past season, he’s still an extremely versatile defender, who can eventually pose a threat as a 3-and-D player if he can hone his form.
