Nathaniel Hackett keeps making the same GOB Bluth huge mistakes, no matter the quarterback

Nathaniel Hackett refuses to learn from last year’s mistakes with the Denver Broncos by giving Aaron Rodgers full autonomy at the line of scrimmage, now reunited on the New York Jets.

Letting Russell Wilson cook led to a Denver Broncos grease fire and an absurdly early termination of Nathaniel Hackett as their head coach, but if it ain’t fixed, don’t break it, I suppose…

For last name and Green Bay Packers reasons, Hackett has reunited with Aaron Rodgers on Robert Saleh’s New York Jets. It feels so good right now, but Saleh did have to fire his best friend’s kid brother to bring in the son of the second worst USC Trojans head coach in my lifetime. I don’t know if he calls plays, or what exactly he does here, but he has Office Space in Florham Park now!

To only further exacerbate things, Hackett is allowing Rodgers to have free rein of the Jets offense and will let him ad-lib however often he so chooses. Rodgers may be infinitely better in the kitchen than Mr. Unlimited, but this could prove disastrous because Hackett didn’t call plays in Green Bay when Rodgers won back-to-back COVID MVPs, as Matt LaFleur was calling the shots.

Here is what Hackett revealed to Good Morning Football’s Peter Schrager on The Season podcast.

"“I just want to see Aaron play some of the best football he’s ever played in his career. That was something that was so fun to be a part of when we were at Green Bay, and I want to see him get to where he wants to be, accomplish what he wants to accomplish.”"

Rodgers isn’t getting any younger and his predecessor bombed with the Jets, but sure, more freedom!

"“I think there’s going to be some freedom with Aaron, and as we moved forward in the Green Bay system, there was definitely more freedom as we went. We’re just going to continue that because you’ve got to take advantage of a guy like Aaron that is so smart and understands it. So, [we’re] trying to build this thing for him and build it so that when he sees certain things, he can do all kind of stuff and put us in the best position possible.”"

While I think this has a better chance of success than Broncos Country, Let’s Ride!, there are so many reasons why the Jets have not qualified for the postseason since before Mark Sanchez Butt Fumbled…

Although I understand the notion of pulling back a bit in terms of total team control, you don’t need to retreat and curl up into a ball like Buster Bluth. While they may allow for some nervous crying in Army, that doesn’t fly in the NFL. The last guy we saw cry on the field was Paxton Lynch, and no, Broncos Country did not exactly ride with him either. This party is about to be off the hook!

For the Jets to take off, they are going to need to focus, work together and not debase their reputation on tricks and illusions. The Final Countdown is not just a song by Europe, but the play clock indeed. That was a bugaboo for Hackett in Denver, as he clearly went to school at the Andy Reid University of Clock Management. Frankly, he would have been better off as a Milford man!

Ultimately, I think Rodgers will be reliable deodorant for many of the Jets’ offensive inefficiencies. He did it for years in Green Bay. Stress stinks, Aaron works! Overall, I would be shocked if Gang Green is not a top-seven team in the AFC this year. A realistic goal for them is to beat the Buffalo Bills in the division before bowing out to Cincinnati or Kansas City in the AFC Championship game.

They don’t hand out the Lamar Hunt Trophy at Army, but it is a better prize than getting a half-day.
