This week Elly De La Cruz became the fifth youngest player to hit for the cycle in MLB history. Who is the youngest player to ever hit for the cycle?

This week, the Reds 21-year-old rookie sensation Elly De La Cruz joined the elite club of players that have hit for the cycle before the age of 22. The Reds rookie has completely lit the baseball world on fire as he features a combination of power, speed, energy, and passion that hasn’t been seen in the game of baseball in a very long time.

He continues to break statcast records with sprint speed, home-to- third times, and exit velocity. He even rivaled baseball history by being one of the youngest players to ever hit for the cycle. But he wasn’t the youngest to ever do it. In fact, he is the fifth youngest in history to hit for the cycle.

Who is the youngest player to ever hit for the cycle?

In the history of baseball, two 20-year-olds hit for the cycle. The youngest to do it was Mel Ott, a member of the 1929 New York Giants. That wasn’t a typo. The youngest player to ever do it was a member of a baseball team named the New York Giants, almost 100 years ago.

Ott achieved this feat on May 16th of that year at just the age of 20 years and 75 days. Ott finished the game 4 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored, both on his 7th inning solo home run. This performance raised his OPS to a staggering 1.276 for the season.

We may never see a player hit for the cycle that’s younger than Mel Ott was when he did it. Ott debuted when he was just 17 years old and it took him a few years for him to achieve the feat. In fact, the youngest player in the current day of baseball is Eury Perez of the Marlins, who is just 20 years and 71 days old. Just four days younger than Ott was when he did it.

Baseball rarely sees a player debut younger than the hall of famer Mel Ott was when he hit for the cycle. Ott’s record may stand the test of time, leaving him as the youngest player to ever achieve this feat.
