Kevin Gausman played catcher for an extra-special Blue Jays first pitch
Blue Jays ace Kevin Gausman was on the mound on Tuesday, but he was behind the plate on Wednesday for his daughter to throw out the first pitch.
On Tuesday night, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman threw another gem for the club up north, allowing just one run and three hits while striking out 12 batters over 6.0 innings against his former team, the San Francisco Giants. Unfortunately, the Jays ended up with a 3-0 loss.
But Gausman had to feel like a winner still, especially the night after for the next game in the series in Toronto.
June 28 at the Rogers Centre was a Kevin Gausman “splitter jersey” giveaway for the first 15,000 Blue Jays fans who made it into the stadium. And as part of the night for fans to appreciate the staff’s ace, they gave him and the Gausman family an ultra-special moment.
Namely, Gausman lined up with one of his daughters at catcher while his oldest daughter, Sadie, threw the most adorable (and impressive for her age) first pitch you’ll ever see in MLB.
Blue Jays: Kevin Gausman catches for daughter throwing first pitch
The vibes were clearly high for the Gausman family after that beautiful moment. Even better, that seemed to carry over to the Blue Jays too.
After losing the first game of the series, Toronto came out hot against Giants ace Logan Webb, using a barrage of hits, including three RBI doubles, to tally five runs in the first inning and take a commanding lead. They didn’t look back from there, going on to even up the three-game series with a 6-1 victory on Wednesday night.
If that’s the type of luck that Sadie Gausman brings the Jays, that might not be the last time she throws out the first pitch. And based on that throw — and her at-home teacher with her dad — it seems safe to say it definitely won’t be her last pitch overall by any stretch.
