Saturday’s game between the Pirates and Brewers on July 1 was put under a rain delay. What is the new start time in Pittsburgh?

The only thing standing between Saturday baseball and the Pirates or Brewers is the weather.

Saturday’s game was scheduled to begin at 4:05 p.m. ET but the expectation in inclement weather prompted the Pirates to delay the start. “Expectation” is key there because the rain had not begun at the time of the delay announcement.

The team officially announced the delay on Twitter.

A few minutes later, the new start time was revealed as 4:45 p.m. ET, weather permitting obviously.

As of the original game time, the sun was still out, so the “brief delay” promised by the team still needs to wait for the weather to actually arrive.

Photos from the ballpark of no tarp on top of the diamond pretty much described the state of things in Pittsburgh.

Of course, forecasts are tricky things and the arrival of rain can be sudden.

On Friday night, the Pirates took the first game of the series 8-7. The victory extended a four game-winning streak that the team will be eager to add to on Saturday. That’s especially true after the excitement of a walk-off.

Pittsburgh trailed 7-3 going into the bottom of the seventh but they clawed back to set up Carlose Santana for a walk-off two-run home run.

The Brewers have also been in decent form. They won a four-game series against the Mets going into Friday’s action.
