Mets rumors: Daniel Vogelbach might be traded by the Mets before August 1

Look away Mets fans, this idea may not feel good to you. The Mets could be in the situation where they would need to move Daniel Vogelbach in order to set the table for their future. Vogelbach will likely be pursued by any contending team as a potential platoon DH or a bench bat. The lefty slugger is used almost exclusively against righties, as he has only seen nine plate appearances against left-handed pitching this year, failing to reach base in those nine trips.

But left-handed power bats are highly sought after on the trade market. Especially now, with the universal DH, Vogelbach will be pursued by a good bit of teams for his production and two years of team control on a team friendly contract. His offensive potential would be a boost to any lineup in October.

This idea is purely speculation, as NY has yet to pursue any open trade talks for the fan favorite DH. But, if the Mets are going to push the pause button on their World Series pursuit, resulting in a retooling, not a rebuild, they may need to trade Vogelbach while they can. The addition of a few prospects would provide more value than losing him in free agency next year.
