Mets rumors: Tommy Pham may have a new home by August 1

The Mets signed Tommy Pham to a one-year contract worth $6 million in the offseason. Both parties knew this would likely be a one-year experiment, with Pham going to the highest bidder in free agency next season. But, with the current state of the Mets, Pham might not make it to free agency before he ends up out of New York.

In fact, Pham has a really, really good chance of being traded before the deadline. It just makes sense for both parties to part ways. Pham, like every MLB player, wants to win above all else. He would be okay with being dealt to a team that can win this year. The Mets would benefit from trading him, as it is better than the alternative of losing him for nothing in free agency a few months from now.

One contending team will be adding Pham to their outfield. He will likely be an everyday player for a team with a shallow outfield depth chart. The Mets outfielder is slashing .284/.352/.511 on the season, good for one of his best seasons in his entire career. While he is already 35 years old and on an expiring deal, the Mets could still land a few mid-level prospects in exchange for him.
