Jared Young may have numbered days in Chicago

Jared Young has only been on the Cubs for 12 games between the last two seasons. In that stretch, the 27-year-old has been nothing more than an injury replacement for Chicago, and that likely hasn’t changed this season.

Young finds himself on the roster due to an unfortunate injury to Patrick Wisdom. With Wisdom beginning his rehab assignment recently, Young could be staring at numbered days left with the big league club in 2023.

Young has shown a good ability to drive the ball gap to gap in his 17 at-bats in 2023, slashing .235/.350/.647 so far with three of his four hits coming for either three bases or coming as a home run. He is showing the ability to play at the MLB level, but it just isn’t his time yet, as the Cubs roster crunch will see him moved to Triple-A.

The career of Jared Young is far from over. His future in Chicago probably isn’t over either. The infielder provides good value for the Cubs and will be useful for them down the road, more than likely as a bench bat. But with Wisdom likely to return from the IL soon, Young will be the player to be moved down when Wisdom returns, ending his stint in the big leagues for now.
