Tim Robinson has been touring around and throwing out first pitches at MLB games. Who is this guy, anyway?

On Wednesday, the Detroit Tigers Tweeted out a lineup card with the caption “I Think You Should Throw Out Tonight’s First Pitch.

The image is not a lineup card that, at first glance, makes any sense at all. In the batter name column, it reads:

  1. Burgers (Pos. 55)
  2. Fries (Pos. 55)
  3. Tacos (Pos. 55)
  4. Pies (Pos. 55)
  5. Sharpie covering (It should be “Cokes”, which I’m assuming was covered for trademark reasons) (Pos. 55)
  6. Tater Tots (Pos. 100)
  7. Pizzas (Pos. 100)
  8. Tenders (Pos. 100)
  9. Meatballs (Pos. 100)
  10. Coffees (Pos. 100)

Then, in the “Available position players” section, it says “55 wings, 55 shakes, 55 pastas, 55 pancakes.”

“Available pitchers” answers even fewer questions, stating “55 peppers, 155 taters”.

Looking at this, you might think you’re having a stroke. You probably aren’t. This is one of those references where, if you get it, you get it. If you don’t, you just don’t.

Who is Tim Robinson, the guy throwing out MLB first pitches?

If you’re at an MLB game in the near future, Tim Robinson might stroll out to the bump before the game and throw the first pitch. But who the heck is that guy?

He’s the creator of I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson on Netflix, the comedy sketch show that takes everyday things to the realm of crazy and conceptual. Or, sometimes it takes crazy and conceptual things to the everyday.

Really, it’s all fair game.

The reference in the Tigers Tweet above is to one of the skits where Robinson plays a character who tries to gamify the pay-it-forward drive-thru trend. He offers to pay for the person’s meal behind him and, assuming the person behind him will pay that forward, he rushes to get behind the car and orders an absurd amount of food. $680 in fast food, to be exact, which actually seems fictionally low given the quantity of things he ordered.

Hilarity ensues. We won’t spoil the ending.

Anyway, the order has evolved into an internet meme as a copypasta that makes no sense if you don’t understand the reference.

That’s the frustrating thing about references, if you’re on the out, it’s hard to figure out how to get in.

Anyway, that’s who this Tim Robinson dude is. Hope that cleared it up for you and lets you be a part of some inside jokes at the office. You’ll need to binge three seasons of the show to get all the way in. And once you’re in, you probably won’t get out. Might ruin a few relationships in the process, but it’s worth it.

Where has Tim Robinson thrown out MLB first pitches?

Tim Robinson threw out a first pitch at Wrigley Field on July 1. They gave away Dan Flashes shirts as well which had to be, like, two thousand dollars apiece. Just look how complicated the patterns are:

His MLB tour continued in the midwest with the Tigers, scheduled for July 5.
