The 2023 MLB Draft begins on Sunday, July 9, live from Seattle, Wash. Here’s how much you can expect prospects to make this year.

This weekend is a huge one for MLB, as they have taken over Seattle, Wash. for the All-Star Game. While the Midsummer Classic is set to take place on Tuesday, July 11, there are a variety of other events. Saturday saw the Futures Game and the Celebrity Softball Game. But Sunday is a special one, especially for those who are fans of professional sports drafts.

On Sunday, July 9, the 2023 MLB Draft officially begins. The event will be held at Lumen Field, home of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. Fans will wait and see which prospects their favorite teams select. This year, the headliners are LSU outfielder Dylan Crews, Florida outfielder Wyatt Langford, and LSU right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes.

So, how much does each prospect get paid?

Well, each prospect that is selected in the MLB Draft earns a different salary. That’s because each draft slot has a different value that teams can sign them to at maximum.

This year, the slot value has increased by 9.88 percent from the 2022 MLB Draft. For example, the No. 1 overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates has a maximum slot value of $9,721,000, which is up from the $8,846,900 value that was placed last year with the No. 1 pick, per Baseball America.

The opening night of the 2023 MLB Draft will air at 7:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 9. The event will be broadcasted on MLB Network and ESPN. The first night will feature Round 1, Competitive Balance Round A, Second Round, and Competitive Balance Round B.

Rounds 3 through 10 will take place on Monday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m. ET, and will stream on MLB.com. Rounds 11 through 20 will air on MLB.com on Tuesday, July 11 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
