Most home runs in a single round of the Home Run Derby

Julio Rodriguez put on a show at the MLB Home Run Derby, which poses a significant question: What is the most home runs in a single round of the Home Run Derby?
Julio put on a show at his home ballpark that left most of us completely stunned. Yes, Julio is one of the best hitters in all of baseball and has performed very, very well in this competition previously — but 41 first-round blasts? No one could have seen that coming, not even Pete Alonso.
Alonso is a two-time champion in his own right, but even he hasn’t had a round like this before. Rodriguez seemed to gain power from the vibes in Seattle — which is the most Gen Z phrase I can think of in the moment.
Most home runs in a single round of the Home Run Derby
Prior to Julio Rodriguez’s 41 home runs, which is now the sitting record, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. set the mark back in 2020 with 40 bombs of his own.
FanSided’s Kervin Henry, live in Seattle covering the Home Run Derby, summed this up best.
“Between this rhythm of hitting homers and the crowd getting louder and louder, Polar Bear is going to have a tough ladder to climb here in the first round. Finished regulation with 32 homers. Long of 452. Crowd is chanting Julio and Seattle showing its backing its favorite son. History made by Julio Rodriguez, the most in any round (41),” Henry said via the live updates chat.
It turns out Henry was right, as Alonso could not climb out of a 41-home run hole. At the time of Vladdy’s ridiculous display, many assumed that record would never be broken. Yet, Guerrero Jr. actually lost that Derby, which should be noted. It seemed he tired himself out in one round of greatness.
