As the 2023 MLB All-Star Game unfolds in Seattle, follow along live with updates from the FanSided team, including Kevin Henry in the press box.

The 2023 Midsummer Classic is upon us, with the American League playing host to the National League at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. put on a show Monday night during the Home Run Derby, and the All-Star Game will ideally follow suit.

The National League hasn’t won the game since 2012, but with a powerful lineup and pitching staff full of capable arms, this could very well be the year.

Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees and Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks will start the game for their respective squads. Both lineups feature plenty of talent, with a slight edge going to the National League due to their versatility.

Who won the MLB All-Star Game in 2023? [UPDATED]

The National League won the MLB All-Star Game this season thanks to a game-winning, two-run home run from Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was the NL’s first All-Star Game victory since 2012, marking the end of a rather embarrassing streak. Craig Kimbrel registered the save.

MLB All-Star Game predictions: Who wins MLB All-Star Game MVP?

FanSided’s MLB team took their shots in the dark as to which team will win the All-Star Game, and who will be named MVP.

Robert Murray, FanSided MLB insider: “I’ll go with the National League. I think their roster is deeper and more talented than the American League. It will be close – it won’t be a blowout or anything – but ultimately I think the NL prevails. Give me Austin Riley for MVP.”

Kevin Henry, FanSided MLB reporter: “Call me an optimist, but I believe the National League finally comes out on top for the first time since 2012 by a 5-2 score. Since he didn’t participate in the Home Run Derby, Ronald Acuña Jr. finds a way to shine from the leadoff spot and earns the game’s MVP honors.”

Cody Williams, FanSided Senior Editor: “7-6 National League, MVP: Corbin Carroll. The hometown hero is going to put on a show and help spark the end of the decade-long drought for the National League. Am I a bit worried that guys like Spencer Strider and Marcus Stroman aren’t taking the mound for the NL? Sure. But the combination of speed and power throughout the NL roster is just too much for me to look past. Shouts to Kevin and his Acuña MVP pick, but Carroll, even further down the order, can provide a similar type of fireworks.”

Mark Powell, FanSided Senior MLB editor: “I’ll avoid the clean sweep here and pick the American League. The NL hasn’t won this damn thing since 2012, and are playing in an AL ballpark. I’m not sure how many of you watched Shohei Ohtani in the World Baseball Classic, but I did. The Angels haven’t been very competitive during his tenure, but every chance this guy gets to put on a show, he delivers. I’m not betting against that, sorry.”

MLB All-Star Game live updates

Powell: Before the game starts, who will be the x-factor tonight, folks?

Henry: I’ll go with Mookie Betts. Is he going to play outfield all night? Will he see some time in the infield as well? He’s going to give a preview of the second half for the Dodgers tonight

Williams: I’m thinking speed is going to play a big role. With it being a pitcher’s park, being able to stretch out extra bases I think could prove to be a deciding factor in getting runs on the board.

Powell: I’m gonna feed the Adley hype. Lost in last night’s HR Derby was that he hit home runs from both sides of the plate. Tonight, he’s a switch-hitting catcher off the bench. Expect him to PH at some point, and likely in a big spot.

Henry: Sun is out here and it’s going to be a gorgeous night. Not a cloud in the sky. Nowhere in the country prettier than Seattle on a day like this. Seattle honoring its 2001 team tonight with plenty of love being shown for the team that won 116 games from the Mariners faithful in attendance.

Powell: Has Seattle ever had a two-day stretch without rain?

Henry: Yordan Alvarez shown with World Series trophy at the end of the Fox promotion on the big screen and Seattle boos. Prepare for that to be a part of the night as every Houston player will be met with boos

Powell: Where is Orbit? Troll back, you fool!

Williams: Dusty absolutely feeding off the hate.

Powell: Gotta give Mariners fans some credit, at least they’re consistent.

Henry: Now that’s how you start an All-Star Game! A defensive gem on the second pitch of the game by Adolis Garcia. Call the Seattle Police, the AL is committing robbery right now in the outfield. Now it’s Randy Arozarena with the highlight reel grab.

Williams: A massive blow to your MVP prediction.

Henry: Has there ever been a time when the fans decided to make a relocation sales pitch to a division rival during the All-Star Game? That just happened for Shohei Ohtani from Mariners fans here in Seattle as they chanted COME TO SEATTLE. After he strikes out, fans in center field bleachers chant WE STILL WANT YOU

Powell: I admire the effort, but it seems unlikely.

Williams: North Carolina Tar Heel legend Zac Gallen cares not for the legend of Ohtani.

Henry: Yandy Diaz gets the AL on the board with a solo shot. The Rays have been the story of the season in the AL so maybe not a surprise a Tampa player would start the scoring tonight?

Williams: I blame Mark and the entire city of Pittsburgh for this. Signed, a Red Sox fan.

Powell: It’s like the Chris Archer trade, but worse. Don’t bet against history

Henry: Seattle’s George Kirby getting the Mariners crowd buzzing with the 99 mph pitch

Powell: And then gives up a double to Red Sox legend JD Martinez

Williams: The once and forever king. Hope the Los Angeles Red Sox enjoy him.

Henry: Arraez with a hit? What a shock. His single ties the game at 1-1

Powell: Did you guys know the Braves are good? I forgot

Henry: Julio Rodriguez takes his place in center field in the bottom of the fifth to the chants of Julio!

Henry: All AL West outfield at the moment with Kyle Tucker in right, Rodriguez in center, and Brent Rooker in right. One who gets booed. One who gets cheered. One who will likely get traded.

Williams: Remember April when Brent Rooker was one of the best hitters in baseball and Marcell Ozuna was hitting sub-.100 and that seemed like the most perfect trade match of all time?

Powell: I member. Why the A’s would ever trade with Alex Anthopoulos remains a mystery.

Henry: Pepperidge Farm remembers

Powell: I NEED the Home Run Derby in extras. If you had to pick 3 hitters, who would you go with?

Henry: For AL, give me Vladdy, Garcia and Arozarena. For NL, Acuna, Olson and Murphy (let the Braves decide it)

Williams: AL: Ohtani the DH, Ohtani the pitcher, Vladdy
NL: Acuña, Olson, Soler

Powell: AL: Julio, Ohtani, Vladdy
NL: Acuña, Olson, Soler — that dude lives batting practice

Powell: We lived the dream for a few innings, folks

Williams: Soto had precisely zero idea where that ball was going on the Rooker hit. Would be great if he were wearing something on his hat to help him locate the ball in the sun…

Williams: I sincerely hate these uniforms more and more with each passing inning.

Powell: THROW IT AGAIN, right Pete? The Tigers have entered the chat!

Henry: Seattle fans: We want the AL to win! Kyle Tucker steps into the box: No, not that way

Powell: I applaud their consistency. And here comes Julio!

Powell: Well, that didn’t go as planned. A reminder that baseball isn’t scripted. Rodriguez K.

Henry: Colorado’s lone representative at the All-Star Game, Elias Diaz, just turned the tide for the NL with a pinch-hit 2-run homer

Williams: If you had Elias Diaz as your MVP pick, I would like to know where you got your crystal ball!

Powell: Feed me more drama! Finally, this game wakes up a bit. Also — Pirates legend Elias Diaz.

Williams: As of this morning, Diaz for ASG MVP was at +6500 on DraftKings

Powell: And we go to the ninth.

Henry: LOL. Tucker catches a ball and there’s a moment of cheers before they realize, “Oh yeah, it’s that guy. Boooo.”

Powell: NL surprisingly going with Craig Midbrel instead of David Bednar? Okay, then.

Henry: The National League wins their first All-Star Game since 2012 at Kauffman Stadium, and what a story it was, thanks to Elias Diaz.
