Genesis Scottish Open DraftKings picks with top plays and fades for The Renaissance Club and building the best PGA DFS lineup for the week.

Let’s go across the pond for the PGA DFS slate this week with the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open now ready for us. Though it isn’t a designated event, the co-sanctioned PGA Tour and DP World Tour tournament has drawn a loaded field as eight of the Top 10 ranked players in the world, in addition to many other big names, tee it up one week away from The Open Championship.

That makes for a fun slate to make our Scottish Open DraftKings picks for the week to get back to winning in our PGA DFS games. The past few weeks, we’ve cooled off immensely after a huge hot streak.

Now that the best in the world are all back on the course together, though, we have the chance to find value and make some big plays this week.

So let’s do just that as we make our 2023 Scottish Open DraftKings picks with top plays and fades from each pricing range before we build our PGA DFS lineup.

Scottish Open DraftKings picks for PGA DFS lineups: Top Plays

$10,000: Rory McIlroy ($10,900) – In all likelihood, I’m going to start my DraftKings lineup in the $9K range. But if I am paying up here, it’s for Rory McIlroy. Not only is he a $700 discount in price from Scheffler, but his play has been ultra stellar of late. He’s second in the field in total weighted strokes gained over the last 16 rounds and, unlike the top-ranked player in that metric (Scheffler), he’s not ailing with the putter. That’s where I’m going with him. Also Consider: Xander Schauffele ($10,400), Patrick Cantlay ($10,200)

$9,000: Tommy Fleetwood ($9,400) – Over the last 16 rounds, Tommy Fleetwood is 10th in this field in total weighted strokes gained — but that’s even with two missed cuts in that span. He’s playing stellar golf, particularly with his ball striking. More importantly, he’s been a stud at this event, finishing T4, T26, and T2 in the last three years. That’s enough at this price to get me in on him in this rich price tier. Also Consider: Viktor Hovland ($9,700), Tyrrell Hatton ($9,600), Rickie Fowler ($9,500), Wyndham Clark ($9,000)

$8,000: Min Woo Lee ($8,900) – The 2021 winner at The Renaissance Club, Min Woo Lee has all kinds of game. But he’s also started to show it more frequently against the top competition in the world. He was T5 at the US Open and T9 at the Travelers in his last two starts against PGA Tour competition and his style of play should suit him well at this venue. Also Consider: Justin Rose ($8,700), Tom Kim ($8,500), Ludvig Aberg ($8,200), Adam Scott ($8,000)

$7,000: Alex Smalley ($7,900) – You would probably never guess that Alex Smalley is fourth in this field in weighted Strokes Gained: Approach over the last 16 rounds, but that’s how good he’s been. He’s striking the heck out of the ball right now and has been reeling off good finishes as a result. Now, after a T10 at the Scottish Open last year, I expect another big finish from him this week.  Also Consider: Aaron Rai ($7,800), Thomas Detry ($7,500), Nicolai Hojgaard ($7,300), Cam Davis ($7,300), Jordan Smith ($7,200)

$6,000: Lee Hodges ($6,800) – The hope is that we don’t have to go down to the $6K range this week, but Lee Hodges is enticing. He’s gaining strokes across the board in his last 16 rounds and has some solid finishes. His style of play should be good for the Scottish Open, so he’s a worthwhile gamble. Also Consider: Davis Riley ($6,900), Kevin Yu ($6,800), Zac Blair ($6,400)

Scottish Open DraftKings picks for PGA DFS lineups: Top Fades

$10,000: Scottie Scheffler ($11,600) – Yes, it’s been literal months since Scottie Scheffler finished outside the Top 5. However, the putter is still a massive issue, losing 0.70 weighted strokes on the green over his last 16 rounds. I can’t trust that, especially at a links style course, much less one that he missed the cut at last year. It’s enough to scare me off the top-priced player on the slate, without a doubt.

$9,000: Jordan Spieth ($9,300) – No question, I’m a bit hesitant to fade Jordan Spieth this week. He finished T10 here last year and has played extremely well in the UK throughout his career. But his inconsistent approach play and short game right now are way too much for me to bank on, especially in a $9K range with plenty of upside all around him.

$8,000: Sungjae Im ($8,600) – We know what the upside is when it comes to Sungjae Im. But the fact of the matter is that he hasn’t totally been himself. His ball striking numbers, which is where he most often thrives, have been pedestrian by his standards. When that’s the case, I have a hard time believing he’s going to go to Scotland and a different style of play and suddenly find his game at top form again.

$7,000: Rasmus Hojgaard ($7,700) – Because he won last week, Rasmus Hojgaard might be a popular play. I, however, won’t be in on that. He’s actually losing strokes tee-to-green over his last 16 rounds, which shows you where his game has been at. His upside is there with anyone, but I can’t bank on that in this loaded field.

Scottish Open: Best DraftKings golf PGA DFS lineup

  • Viktor Hovland ($9,700)
  • Tommy Fleetwood ($9,400)
  • Ludvig Aberg ($8,200)
  • Alex Smalley ($7,900)
  • Thomas Detry ($7,500)
  • Cam Davis ($7,300)

Hovland is actually my pick to win this week, so his inclusion in the lineup should make sense. He missed the cut here last year, but has elevated his game and has been playing perfectly as of late.

Ludvig Aberg has a perfect game for a links course and has been trending as he’s beginning his PGA Tour career, including a T4 last week with just one bad round. As for Detry, his course history at this event is stellar, even if the form hasn’t been, so I’m banking on that. Davis is the opposite end of the spectrum with no history but a ton of game that should suit this tournament and lead him to success.
