3 Yankees who aren’t on the trade block, but should be
2. Oswald Peraza
Peraza has spent the majority of this season in the minors after losing out to Volpe in a Spring Training battle for the starting shortstop position. The general consensus is that he’s working on his swing down in Scranton before coming back to the Bronx for good.
It’s time for New York to pick a permanent direction with their talented middle infielder. Peraza should either come back to the majors as a full-time starter or be traded to the highest bidder. Cashman needs to avoid the temptation to “prospect hug” when it comes to Peraza.
The good news is that opposing teams should line up for the chance to trade for a talented prospect who’s ready to immediately handle a starting role at a challenging position. He could bring back an immediate starting pitcher ready to boost the starting rotation. At the very least, Peraza should be able to garner a top-five prospect from another franchise.
The prospect of dealing Peraza is a bit risky, but it’s time for the Yankees to garner real value for the top prospect. He isn’t adding to the major league team’s win total down in Scranton. Cashman needs to clarify his future ahead of this year’s trade deadline to make sure his career stays on track.
