When you’re sitting at the top of the world, the only direction to go is down. But here are five dream scenarios for the Kansas City Chiefs that would take them even higher.

Two Super Bowl wins in the last three years. Seven straight AFC West titles. The best quarterback in the league and a future Hall-of-Fame coach. Pinch a Kansas City Chiefs fan right now — he’s already dreaming.

After a dominating 2022 season, the Chiefs’ standards have been raised. They’re the lean and hungry team everyone wants to be, the picture of organizational success and sustainable winning. In an alternate universe, James Bradberry may not have been called for holding in Super Bowl LVII and the Eagles may have bested Kansas City, giving the Chiefs a vengeful reason to come out this season with every hamburger and hotdog trick play in Andy Reid’s menu book.

Instead, the Chiefs will head into 2023 with an elevated purpose: Cement the dynasty.

Here are five dream scenarios for the upcoming season.

Chiefs’ Dream Scenario No. 5: Mahomes is as Mahomes does

All it takes is one unfortunate injury, and the Chiefs’ hopes and dreams go flat. Patrick Mahomes appears to have fully recovered from the ankle injury he suffered last postseason, but somewhere out there, a low-life Raiders fan is wishing for the worst.

Assuming Mahomes stays healthy in 2023, the dream scenario is that he keeps playing like himself. No notes.

The reigning league MVP led the NFL in several offensive categories including passing yards (5,250), touchdowns (41), yards gained per game (308.8), and quarterback rating (77.6). He only needs a little over 4,200 yards to become Kansas City’s franchise leader in passing yards, and if all goes according to plan, he’ll meet that mark and then some.

Much ink has been spilled on how losing Tyreek Hill actually made Mahomes a better quarterback and made the Chiefs’ offense less predictable overall. With a similarly styled pass-catching corps as last year, expect more of the same as master and magician Mahomes runs the show.

Speaking of insanely good players, Travis Kelce will also hopefully maintain his age-defying success, helping his partner-in-crime terrorize defenses all year long. Kelce’s seven consecutive seasons of 1,000-plus receiving yards defy logic. He’s 33 years old and he’s playing tight end, one of the shorter shelf lives of all football positions. Yet somehow, he still ranked in the top-10 in receiving yards and touchdowns among all targets in 2022, wideouts included.

Let’s see him achieve those ridiculous numbers again in 2023. The wheels on the Kelce bus go ’round and ’round, all over town.
