Chiefs’ Dream Scenario No. 1: Sweep the Bengals en route to Super Bowl

It’s December 31, 2023. A regular season matchup at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow go toe-to-toe for most of the game until the waning seconds of the fourth quarter when Mahomes leaps into the air and throws a perfect spiral to Travis Kelce. Eli Apple tries to deflect the ball but trips over his laces. Touchdown, game.

Chiefs top the AFC West for the eighth straight year with 15 wins. Russell Wilson considers retirement, the Chargers fire most of their coaching staff, and Raiders fans burn their own stadium to the ground.

It’s January. The AFC Championship game. Mahomes vs. Burrow, again. A similar high-octane offensive shootout between two legends in the making.

Ja’Marr Chase goes for a ton of yards and a couple of touchdowns, but the Chiefs stay in the game due to Kadarius Toney’s and Skyy Moore’s production. Down one score, Mahomes and the Chiefs advance into Bengals’ territory late in the game. Reid calls a revised “Ring Around the Rosie” play, also known as the “Jelly Donut.” Touchdown, Toney. Overtime. Kansas City gets the ball first, and Mahomes makes quick work of the Bengals’ defense to reach the end zone. Hand it to Isiah Pacheco for the easy score.

Now, Joe Burrow gets his time to shine, and things are starting to look a little wobbly for the Chiefs’ defense. On a pivotal fourth down, Burrow arches back to launch a game-tying ball to Chase until… BAM. Chris Jones for the sack. Game over.

“Burrowhead” fades into oblivion and Cincy’s mayor steps down.

The Chiefs head to Super Bowl LVII against the San Francisco 49ers and win. Mahomes is MVP, yadda yadda yadda.

You asked for a dream scenario. Well, this is the dream.
