Packers training camp news: Jordan Love struggles, Bakhtiari schedule, position switch
Packers news: Jordan Love struggles on Day 1 of camp in windy conditions
Of course, the biggest thing to watch at Packers training camp is the start of Jordan Love as QB1 in Green Bay with the offseason departure of Aaron Rodgers. And unfortunately, it wasn’t what anyone would call a perfect start to camp for Love.
ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported that Love finished the 88 minutes of practice going 7-of-14 while Love looked good on the short and intermediate throws, but struggled with deep balls down the field. He also noted that the high winds present for the first practice of camp played a factor in the inaccuracy and incompletions for Love.
A run down of Day 1 at Packers training camp from Justis Mosqueda of Acme Packing Co. also noted that the defense “won” the day at practice, resulting in the offense doing pushups at the end of the day.
Perhaps a less windy day — and a much, much larger sample size — is pertinent to making any kind of meaningful assessment on Jordan Love. Having said that, the struggles throwing deep are something to watch moving forward, particularly if that becomes a pattern.
Even with some issues, though, the offseason reports of Love and second-year wideout Romeo Doubs having quite the rapport were backed up as the two seemed to be wholly on the same page throughout the practice.
Jordan Love will continue to be the story of Packers training camp. He wasn’t a dumpster fire in his first practice as QB1 in Green Bay, but all indications are that there is plenty of room to improve as training camp moves forward.
