The Mets and Rangers have agreed in principle to a trade that involves sending veteran Max Scherzer to Texas. Here is the internet’s reaction.
New York Mets veteran ace Max Scherzer is reportedly being traded to the Texas Rangers for an unknown haul before the trade deadline. Scherzer owns a 4.01 ERA and was likely viewed as dead weight for a Mets team that looks more and more like sellers this summer; on the flip side, the Rangers are looking to put together a serious playoff-contending season and could use the extra pitching depth.
Yet those antsy Rangers fans are frantically asking: At what cost?
In 2023, the 38-year-old Scherzer has recorded career-lows across several categories and may be labeled as damaged goods at this point in his career.
It’s important to note Scherzer has a no-trade clause, so it’s up to him if this trade goes through. At this time of this writing, Scherzer has not approved nor denied the trade. He has until Tuesday’s deadline to make his decision.
The ball is in Scherzer’s court now. As we await updates on this blockbuster Scherzer trade, enjoy some of the best memes and tweets Twitter/ X has to offer:

I’m curious about Texas’ willingness to take on the risk of Max Scherzer exercising that player option, given his performance (this year) and injury issues he’s had since joining the #Mets.

But it’s not my money!
If Max Scherzer agrees to this, the Mets just took a massive win. Getting off his $43M contract AND getting a solid return seemed unthinkable a few weeks ago. If they can trade Verlander for a haul, they will have gotten out of the mess they made and reset the books for 2024. https://t.co/YsxwafFw8m
