Bills: 3 2023 roster holes that could cost Josh Allen a Super Bowl and why

Bills roster hole No. 2: Cornerback
The Buffalo Bills have a talented secondary overall. However, they struggled last year with cornerback depth when Tre’Davious White missed the early part of the season with a knee injury. Moreover, when White did return, he didn’t look as good as he had in prior seasons when he was considered one of the best in the league at the position.
White gets a bit of a pass for his mediocre play given that he had returned from major knee surgery. It should be expected his play will improve with a full training camp and as he is fully healthy to start the season with the injury now in the rearview, but that remains to be seen.
Lining up on the other side of the defensive backfield will be 2022 first-round pick Kaiir Elam who represents a bright spot for the team and has the potential to make decisive improvements in his game in year two. He should be considered the X-factor for this unit.
Overall, the cornerback play for Buffalo will be crucial to any deep playoff run. Buffalo would be likely to face Joe Burrow and/or Patrick Mahomes in route to a Super Bowl opportunity. It would take a tall task for any defensive backfield to slow either of these quarterbacks. It remains to be seen whether Buffalo’s cornerbacks will be capable of it.
