Wyndham Championship picks 2023: Expert picks, best bets for PGA Tour golf this week

Wyndham Championship picks and best bets at Sedgefield Country Club this week as we have an outright, Top 10, One and Done, and more PGA Tour expert picks for golf.

We’ve arrived at the last event of the PGA Tour regular season with the FedExCup Playoffs beginning next week in Memphis. But the 2023 Wyndham Championship is the last chance for many players to try and get into the Top 70 of the season-long standings and into the season.

Tom Kim had a phenomenal victory at the Wyndham Championship last year, quadruple bogeying his first hole at Sedgefield Country Club before then going on to get the win. He has withdrawn from this field, however, so there won’t be a repeat winner. That gives us some fresh blood with our PGA Tour expert picks.

Our picks last week left a lot to be desired as we weren’t even close with several of our 3M Open best bets. We were swept by the books, but it’s time for some payback with our Wyndham Championship picks, starting with the Top 10, outrights from myself and BetSided Senior Editor Iain MacMillan, and One and Done selections before we offer up more best bets.

PGA Tour expert picks for 3M Open: Winner, Top 10, One and Done

Top 10 Pick for the Wyndham Championship: Russell Henley (+240, DraftKings)

Russell Henley has finished T9, T7, and T5 in the last three years leading up to this tournament, trending closer to a win at the Wyndham. I’m not taking him for that, but for a guy who has gained more than 1.0 strokes on approach over his last 20 rounds and has been registering Top 20s regularly in stronger fields in recent starts, missing the cut at The Open aside. I love his game and fit at this event and think he can come up big this week.

Pick to Win the Wyndham Championship (0.5 Units): Denny McCarthy (+2800)

Put simply, over the last 36 rounds and perhaps over the entire season, Denny McCarthy has been the best player in this field, gaining more than 0.6 weighted strokes on approach, driving the ball accurately and overall well, and of course putting like a banshee. Given that along with a T15 and T9 at the Wyndham in the previous two years prior to missing the cut in 2022, I love McCarthy to finish off a great season strong with a win here.

Iain MacMillan‘s pick to win the Wyndham Championship: Si Woo Kim (+2000)

"You can’t argue with the course history that Si Woo Kim has at the Wyndham Championship. In his last six starts at this event, he has four top 5 finishes including a win here in 2016. His success makes complete sense when you look at the type of golfer that does well at Sedgefield Country Club. With the majority of approach shots coming between 125-200 yards, you need a golfer who loves a mid-iron in his hand, and that’s exactly what Kim is. In fact, he ranks fourth on Tour this season in approach proximity from 150-175 yards. To be fair, he hasn’t been great form lately, missing two straight cuts, but I simply can’t ignore the success he’s had over the years at this track. I think his price at 20/1 this week is more than fair."

One and Done Pick for the Wyndham Championship: Alex Smalley

We’ll cover more on Alex Smalley in short order, but his elite approach play of late with a solid putter combined with his history at Sedgefield have me feeling good about his chances for a great finish this week.

Wyndham Championship picks and best bets

Zac Blair to finish Top 40 (+280)

We’re going a little wild here but Zac Blair has started to show up sporadically of late with a T13 at the 3M after finishing T2 at Travelers a few weeks ago. He’s gaining strokes in every category over his last 14 rounds (those two finishes and three missed cuts) except for off the tee — but that’s entirely due to a lack of length as he’s one of the most accurate drivers in the field. With trending approach play and putting and his accuracy, these odds for a Top 40 are wildly juicy.

Billy Horschel to finish Top 20 (+360)

The popular struggling-golfer-trying-to-finish-strong play for this week is going to be Justin Thomas, who probably needs a Top 10 to make the FedExCup Playoffs. Instead, I’m zagging with Billy Horschel. In his last four starts at the Wyndham, he has three Top 11 finishes and a T27 last year. He showed some form last week with a T13 at the 3M with accurate driving and a strong short game. If he can just be solid on approach, this number for only a Top 20 is enticing.

Alex Smalley to finish Top 20 (+230)

Let me crack my knuckles before going all-in on Alex Smalley.

I truly considered Smalley for an outright this week but getting +230 for just a Top 20 is great value in itself. Prior to missing the cut in Scotland, Smalley had registered four straight made cuts with three Top 25s in that mix, including a pair of Top 10 finishes. He’s gaining 1.02 strokes on approach over his last 20 rounds, is an accurate driver, and even with losing strokes putting overall, gained with the putter in his three Top 25 finishes. Now he comes to a place where he has a T13 and T29 in two starts and has gained with the putter in both starts too. With the shape of the rest of his game, I love where he fits this week.

Longshot pick to win the Wyndham Championship (0.1 Units): Chez Reavie (+12000)

When it comes to a shorter golf course that demands accuracy, strong approach play, and a good putter, you know Chez Reavie is going to be on the card somewhere. We’re taking a longshot dart throw at him this week largely because his course history is shockingly mediocre (T47, T48 and two missed cuts in his last four starts). But he’s gaining more than a full stroke on approach over his last 20 rounds while being extremely accurate driving the ball and up-and-down putting. His upside is obvious with the course fit at Sedgefield.
