Tim Anderson gets KO’d again with heavier suspension than Jose Ramirez

Suspensions for Tim Anderson and Jose Ramirez, among others involved in the massive White Sox-Guardians brawl, were handed out on Monday by MLB.

We knew it was coming from the moment that Cleveland Guardians All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez landed his right hook on Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson. But on Monday, MLB laid down the hammer.

And much to the chagrin of Anderson surely, it might feel like another hook to the jaw.

As reported by ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, Anderson receives the heaviest suspension of anyone involved in the brawl and will be out six games. Meanwhile, Ramirez is suspended for three games for his role in the brawl while Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase will be suspended one game as well.

Managers Terry Francona and Pedro Grifol in addition to Guardians third base/infielders coach Mike Sarbaugh were all suspended for one game as well, per Rogers.

Getting knocked out cold and having to be escorted off of the diamond and also getting the longest suspension of anyone on either team is definitely a tough one for Tim Anderson.

At the same time, you could argue it’s also deserved. While things were clearly heated on Ramirez’s slide into second where he took umbrage with something Anderson did or said, Anderson escalated the situation singlehandedly when he dropped his glove and squared up for a fight. That’s where the wild brawl officially began.

Then again, Ramirez got up and put his fingers in his face, so perhaps the three-game suspension there — especially with the haymaker that landed on Anderson and knocked him to the ground involved too — might be a little light. Alas, that’s not the point. These guys are being punished and suspended, hopefully trying to put this behind them.

For years, we remembered the Rougned Odor and Jose Bautista fight as MLB fans as the most memorable brawl in baseball memory. This has surely supplanted that.

The White Sox and Guardians do not play again this season.
