Cardinals prospects to add to the roster: Masyn Winn

Masyn Winn is the Cardinals top prospect, and he’s just 21 years old. There’s certainly an argument to be made that Wynn should spend the rest of the season at Triple-A Memphis, though he’s been raking since his arrival.

Winn has a .284/.355/.467 slash line in Memphis, and has spent his entire season there thus far. Surely, there are other areas where he could continue to develop in the minor leagues, but he’s proven he can hit pitching at that level. Why not give him a shot against major-league caliber competition?

Winn made some noise at the Futures Game for his arm, and for good reason — he can toss the ball across the infield at speeds over 100 MPH. While Paul Goldcshmidt may need to rest his glove hand after the fact, there isn’t much other reason to keep Winn in Memphis, especially if it’s stunting his growth.

As MLB Pipeline noted, Winn made some adjustments at the plate in 2022, and they have paid off big time with an excellent season in Triple-A:

"“What launched Winn into Top 100 standing were his offensive improvements in 2022. He became a more patient hitter in his second full season and also started elevating the ball more, leading to a jump in total home runs from five to 11 and extra-base hits from 29 to 56. He may not be more than an average hitter in the end who just pushes past double-digit dingers in the bigs, but given the impact he can have on the basepaths and in the field, that would still be enough to make Winn an impact Major League shortstop.”"

If the only doubt about Winn heading into the 2022 season was his bat, then he has answered those questions and then some in Memphis. Give the kid a chance, and give Cards fans something to be excited about come September.
