The Philadelphia Phillies may have won the MLB trade deadline, as starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen threw a no-hitter in his second start with the team.

The Philadelphia Phillies were in the midst of the NL Wild Card picture on the day of the MLB trade deadline and decided to make a push for a starting pitcher. They gave the Detroit Tigers a call and were able to bring in Michael Lorenzen, in exchange for Philadelphia’s No. 5 prospect, Hao-Yu Lee.

After just two starts, the Lorenzen trade may be the best deal of the 2023 MLB trade deadline.

On Wednesday night, Lorenzen made his first official home start as a member of the Phillies, taking on the Washington Nationals. He carried a no-hitter through the seventh inning and had 100 pitches thrown. Most managers would have taken Lorenzen out due to the pitch count, but not Rob Thomson.

In the ninth inning, on his 124th pitch thrown, Lorenzen forced Dominic Smith to fly out to center fielder Johan Rojas. With that, Lorenzen threw the Phillies’ 14th no-no in franchise history. This is also the first time a Phillies pitcher threw a no-hitter since Cole Hamels did so back in 2015.

That’s right, based on the last tweet above, Lorenzen threw a no-hitter while wearing a pair of Vans sneakers. Is this officially the greatest no-hitter in baseball history? Well, there may be a spike in Vans sales in Philadelphia.

Lorenzen struck out five batters and walked four batters in nine full innings of work.

What a way to make a first impression on Phillies fans in Philadelphia.

Is this the first time the Nationals have ever been no-hit?

Not only did the Phillies make history with Lorenzen’s no-hitter, but also the Washington Nationals. This is officially the first time that the Nationals were no-hit by a pitcher in the franchise’s history.

With that, there are officially no more teams that were never no-hit.
