2023 Leagues Cup, Quarterfinals: Philadelphia vs. Queretaro preview and prediction

Philadelphia Union and Queretaro will go head-to-head on Aug 11 in the 2023 Leagues Cup quarter-finals at Subaru Park at 8:00 p.m. ET.

This match will be the second time these teams have met in the 2023 Leagues Cup. The first time came back in the Group Stages, where Philadelphia was able to go on and win comfortably 5-1, thanks to the fantastic game that Daniel Gazdag had with his hat trick.

How did Philadelphia and Queretaro get to this point?

Both teams got to this point by winning their Round of 16 matchups, 4-3 in penalty kicks. Philadelphia overcame the NY Red Bulls thanks to Nathan Harriel and his match-tying goal in the second half.

Queretaro won their penalty shootout by scoring all four of their goals. The penalty shootout came when Esmir Barjarktarevic’s 78th-minute strike erased Jaime Gomez Valencia’s goal in the 46th minute. Queretaro is just one of the two remaining Liga MX teams left in the tournament.

Philadelphia and Queretaro head-to-head and prediction

Yes, these two teams met last month in the Group Stages, and Queretaro is looking to return from that bad 5-1 loss. Queretaro has won their previous three matches ever since the Philadelphia loss. Philadelphia has won their last six matches in a row, five of them coming at home at Subaru Park, and they are unbeaten in their previous 14 home matches.

When you look at these two teams, and the goals scored, Philadelphia has scored at least two or more in five of the last seven home matches they have played. Queretaro has been able to come in and achieve at least one goal in their previous five matches.

Philadelphia has been able to win their last six matches in a row, but the last two have had to be decided by penalty kicks. They have also scored 13 goals in that same period and only conceded four.

Queretaro has played three league cup matches and has been able to keep two of them with clean sheets. Yes, Queretaro gave up five goals to Philadelphia, but they are looking to improve from the last match.

Philadelphia has been on an impressive roll through the Leagues Cup, but Queretaro is out for revenge when they meet again. The prediction for this match is that Queretaro will fall short, and Philadelphia will win 2-1.
