Lamar Jackson has accomplished a lot during his NFL career but one thing he has not managed to do is lead the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl victory. Nonetheless, the former MVP is already starting to make concrete plans about what he'll do if the Ravens win it all this year.

The Ravens are set to begin their postseason journey on Saturday night when they host the Steelers. Baltimore will enter the game as favorites, but anything can happen in a contest between such bitter rivals. Even if the Ravens do win their playoff opener, they still face a tough road to the Super Bowl as the No. 3 seed in the AFC.

That's what makes Jackson's admission to reporters that he wants to retire the No. 8 if he wins a Super Bowl so strange. The talented quarterback went on to say he would like to switch to the No. 1 before winning his second title.

Lamar Jackson needs to take one playoff game at a time

All of Jackson's focus should be on beating the Steelers. It's far too early for him to start dreaming about lifting the Vince Lombardi trophy in February. One potential downside of his latest comments is that he's given the Steelers' defense some additional bulletin board material ahead of their big matchup.

Confidence is a powerful thing in the postseason though. Ravens fans can take encouragement from the fact that their best player is speaking to the press with such self-assurance. Jackson always seems to play with a lot of swagger on the field so it's only natural that he would show the same bravado when talking to the media.

In the end, Jackson's words won't mean a thing unless he adds the most important accomplish to his playing resume possible this year. A Super Bowl win would not just change his jersey number. It would change the way he'll ultimately be remembered.
