Luka's revenge against Dallas might go on for years after Mavericks awake 'beast'

Whatever punishment Doncic has in store for the Mavs could last a long time.

Luka Doncic is going to do everything in his power to make sure Nico Harrison and the Dallas Mavericks truly regret sending him to Los Angeles. This has nothing to do with the fan base, of course; Doncic loved the Mavs just like Mavs fans did him.

No, this is about the front office and new ownership. They abandoned Doncic, for what seems to be a petty reason at that. The New Orleans Pelicans didn’t let Zion Williamson’s weight break their relationship with him, and we can all agree Doncic is well ahead of Williamson as a player. So Harrison sending the star that led Dallas to its first NBA Finals appearance since the team won a title in 2011 is still as baffling as it was when word of the deal first broke. And Doncic will be out for blood come Tuesday night.

According to ESPN Lakers reporter Dave McMenamin, “a beast as awoken” within Doncic after the speculation and criticism of his weight surfaced in the wake of his move to Los Angeles. That beast may be unleashed in Southern California on Tuesday.

Luka Doncic will probably do everything he can to make Nico Harrison, Dallas Mavericks ever regret giving up on him

Tuesday will be just the beginning of Doncic’s revenge tour. The wrath he unleashes at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday night is just the tip of the iceberg. Doncic will probably go out of his way to make sure that every time the Mavs and the Lakers meet, he puts together an all-time classic performance.

And I just feel bad for Mavs fans that have to endure that. Because Dallas doesn’t deserve to watch their former superstar torch them multiple times a year. After all, they never wanted him to leave, and they appreciated what they had while they had it. But sometimes, you become the victim of other people’s actions.

Whatever “beast” that has possessed Doncic that McMenamin is referencing, it may never be tamed when the Mavs and Lakers play. Doncic has a point to prove to his former team, one that didn't just make an evaluation of him as a player but attempted to come after his character as well. And if he ends up being in the best shape of his life, Harrison might not have a job after it’s all said and done.

The Mavs have to win a championship with a core of Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson and Anthony Davis, otherwise this trade was a complete waste. And if they have the chance, they have to do everything they can to keep L.A. from getting a ring first.

More importantly, they’ll have to find a way to stop Doncic from beating them the same way he became one of the league’s most clutch players. Because no other team in the NBA is going to get his best like the Mavs, and it will be like that for quite some time.
