2. Giants should sign Jordan Montgomery

While Jordan Montgomery can't be considered an ace by any means, he is still a solid option. He's a pitcher in his prime and one that can be trusted in postseason games.

That is something the Giants are going to need if they're looking for a starter.

Montgomery went 10-11 and posted a 3.20 ERA in 2023. He began the year with the St. Louis Cardinals before being shipped to the eventual World Series champion Texas Rangers at the trade deadline.

All Montgomery did was go 3-1 with a 2.90 ERA and earn the win in Game 7 of the ALCS against the then-defending champion Houston Astros to advance the Rangers to their first World Series since 2011.

He's a veteran that takes the ball every fifth day and can be trusted to come through in big games. He and Webb would make a nasty 1-2 combo atop the Giants rotation if the team were to sign him.

Montgomery's free agency has stretched into spring training, which could be detrimental for the left-hander in terms of his value, but the Giants can't afford to take half measures. They need a proven presence in their starting rotation.
