MLB Rumors: 3 teams who can’t miss on Jordan Montgomery in drying-up market

2. Los Angeles Angels need starting pitching if they want to contend for the postseason
The Los Angeles Angels seemingly tried their best to convince Shohei Ohtani to sign a long-term deal with them. That was evident when they sacrificed their farm system to make a push for a postseason push, which was not to be. However, the team did bring in a proven, winning manager in Ron Washington, showing that they are focused on winning. However, Ohtani chose to sign a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers.
If the Angels still want to make a push for the playoffs in 2024 with Mike Trout, they really need to address their starting rotation. Even when they had Ohtani leading the way, it was still an area of need. They tried with Lucas Giolito, but waived him around a month after the trade deadline after they fell out of postseason contention.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Angels were among five teams interested in Montgomery. But the thing is, would they be willing to exceed a contract larger than what Aaron Nola earned with the Philadelphia Phillies. Well, if they want to be a relevant team, they need to spend some money to improve the roster.
The Angels need to do something this offseason to tell their fanbase, "we are attempting to win this season." Montgomery would be a welcome addition to the team. Plus, it would help take a key piece away from the rival Rangers.
