While the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets attempt to hash out a megadeal involving Paul Pierce, the Nets aren’t the only team attempting to acquire the long time Celtics small forward.

Multiple teams in recent weeks have expressed interest in Pierce (or his lucrative expiring contract) and have attempted to trade for the former Kansas Jayhawk.

Now, according to Gary Washburn, not only are the Celtics in trade talks with the Nets, they’re also in talks with “multiple” teams.

Per Washburn:

"NBA source confirms Celtics-Nets talks and also adds #celtics are in talks with multiple clubs about deals"

The Nets have long desired Pierce as they attempted to trade for him during this past seasons NBA trade deadline but were unable to get the Celtics to budge on a deal.

Unlike a handful of teams attempting to acquire Pierce, the Nets actually want him for his talent – not his contract. If Pierce is traded and then bought out, it’s expected he would sign with the Los Angeles Clippers who are not only void of a starting small forward, but also reside in Pierce’s hometown. Pierce would be free to sign with the Clippers despite an NBA memo stating the two teams can’t exchange players, as Pierce would become a free agent.
