The Atlanta Falcons had learned the news that star wide receiver Julio Jones could miss the rest of the 2013-14 season with a foot injury and the news was officially confirmed on Wednesday evening.

The team announced that Jones would be undergoing season-ending foot surgery next week after Dr. Robert Anderson confirmed he had a broken foot.

It is a devastating blow to the Falcons, who are currently sitting at 1-4 after entering the season with Super Bowl hopes.

Now, they will need to rely on Harry Douglas and others to step up and fill the big void left on the roster with Jones’ injury. To make matters worse, the team’s other top wide receiver Roddy White is still dealing with a nagging injury that could keep him out for a few weeks.

This means Matt Ryan could be down two of his top targets, which results on defenses keying in on Tony Gonzalez and working to stop the run.

It hasn’t been a fun season in Atlanta and it looks like their chances of turning things around were dealt a serious blow.
