The Atlanta Falcons have announced they are activating linebacker Shawn Weatherspoon this week.  Weatherspoon was placed on the injured reserve list and designated to return after he suffered a Lisfranc injury to his foot.  The news is good as the Falcons get a vocal leader back in their defense, but it is hard to imagine that Weatherspoon could have imagined he would be coming back to a 2-7 record.

The Falcons have suffered a number of big injuries and also had some extremely ineffective play from the offensive line.  The Falcons prepare to go on the road to take on the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what has become perhaps the two most disappointing teams in the league this year.  Both have a significant amount of talent but various issues have caused both them to have terrible seasons.

The Falcons are hoping that Weatherspoon’s energy and vocal presence can revitalize the Falcons this season as they more or less play for pride from here on out.  The defense of the Falcons has a lot of youth, so the hope is they can find a strong nucleus going forward as they try to address some of the weaknesses, especially up front with pass rushers.
