The Atlanta Falcons disappointing season has been plagued by injuries and now it looks like another one of their stars could be on the sidelines moving forward. Veteran tight end Tony Gonzalez was injured during the team’s blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, which caused him to briefly head to the sidelines.
Gonzalez was able to return to the field, but he said after the game that he will have to see how the injured toe on his left foot feels this week in order to determine whether or not he will be able to suit up next weekend.
“We’ll see. I played on it,” Gonzalez said, via Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com. “Wasn’t able to go full speed, but we’ll see how it goes the next day. Usually when you have injuries, you can get through it through the game. Then the next day after it calms down and swells up a little bit, then that’s when the trouble starts. So, we’ll see how goes. Tomorrow, I’m going to wake up, and hopefully it’s not that bad.”
Already without star wide receiver Julio Jones, the Falcons offense cannot afford to lose Gonzalez.
Gonzalez has only missed one game since 2006, so it is unlikely he will not be available, but if he is forced to sit out, it will be the latest setback in his final season in the NFL.
