On Sunday, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was arrested for possession of marijuana after it was discovered during a routine traffic stop. Less than a week later on Friday morning, Atlanta Falcons running back Jason Snelling was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. Snelling was stopped after an officer observed his driving and noticed that he couldn’t stay in its lane.

Police officers pulled Snelling over and approached the vehicle. As they got closer officers said they could smell “a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.”

Snelling reportedly then admitted to smoking marijuana at a friend’s house earlier in the evening.

“I asked Mr. Snelling if there was any other marijuana in the vehicle, and he told me that there was a grinder in the center console of the vehicle and that it had a little bit of marijuana left in it,” the arresting officer wrote in his report, via the Barrow County News. “… I searched the vehicle and located a metal grinder where Mr. Snelling had said it was.”

There is where the story gets interesting. While one officer searched Snelling’s vehicle, another questioned him. He noticed that Snelling was swallowing repeatedly during their conversation. The reporter then asked Snelling to open his mouth and he discovered green leafy particles inside.

Of course, Snelling denied eating any marijuana. At least he didn’t ask if the nearby Sonic was open like Dwayne Bowe. Numerous commenters on various social media platforms suggested that Bowe should have eaten the marijuana to avoid possession charges and it looks like Snelling tried that. Deadspin even wrote an article about eating marijuana during traffic stops and gave readers a guide on how to do it successfully.

Snelling was charged with possession of marijuana – less than one ounce and possession of drug related materials. It is a pretty boneheaded decision to drive and put yourself in that situation. Especially after you watched Bowe get arrested less than a week earlier.
