Although the Denver Nuggets have gotten off to a solid 13-8 start on the season, head coach Brian Shaw is upset with the team’s slow starts.  According to Tom Schad of the Denver Post, Shaw knows the problem.

"The Nuggets got off to another slow start Monday night, scoring 18 points in the first quarter. Their previous season low was 88 points, most recently scored five days ago at Cleveland.Shaw has searched for answers to their offensive woes in the first quarters of games. Last week, he walked through the locker room, saw players eating pizza and nachos and believed the poor diet to be the cause. So he picked up all the junk food and threw it in the trash. The Nuggets had fresh salads with chicken breast and cold cut sandwiches before Monday’s game. The sluggish result was the same."

So, there you have it. A poor diet leads to a poor first quarter.

The Nuggets will be back in action Friday when they host the Utah Jazz.
