When it comes to a Tony Gonzalez touchdown, you expect one thing – a dunk.

The former basketball star has turned dunking on the goalpost into a tradition – a tradition many have emulated during Gonzalez’s 17-year NFL career.

So it shouldn’t come as any shock that the Atlanta Falcons tight end, who secured his seventh touchdown of the season Sunday afternoon decided to hammer down on the goalpost with a flush. Only problem? It seemed as if Gonzo took off from a little too far out, which could have resulted in disaster for his attempted dunk.

As Gonzalez rushed through the end zone, ready to slam things home, he began to realize mid-way through the attempted dunk he might get stuffed.

Rather than being embarrassed in front of 70,000 fans (not to mention those watching at home), Gonzo opted for a more traditional and safe layup.

Even better? The eventual Hall of Fame tight end played it off about as smoothly as one could – almost making it look like he meant to do it.

Almost.
