The Washington Wizards haven’t been a good basketball team for a very long time, but that hasn’t stopped them from trying to bring a winner to town. The drafting of John Wall was the start of a new era and recently the Wizards have been striving for stability to exist in this new era.

Wall was signed to a max extension over the summer and this week Bradley Beal admitted he wants to stick around long-term as well. This has led the Wizards to want to find a way to extend the contract of Marcin Gortat or somehow find a way to bring him back for the 2014-15 season.

This continues to show that the Wizards are interested in having stability for once and want to retain as much of their core as they can.

What this also likely means that the Wizards wouldn’t trade for Greg Monroe, as they only have room in the offseaosn for Gortat or Monroe. If an extension can’t be worked out by the trade deadline though, we may see Washington make a deal with Detroit and then see who they like better before the end of the season.
