Former Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez has stated he’s going to retire. There’s simply no way anybody could talk him out of it.

Of course, the eventual Hall of Fame player did leave open the door a bit, suggesting that he could possibly return in the right scenario.

So what exactly would that be? Well, it would be late in the season for a team in need who just so happens to be a Super Bowl contender. In short, it’s probably not likely but Gonzo simply won’t close the door on a potential return.

Per Pro Football Talk:

"In the interview, Gonzalez also says that he’d be open to a possible return next season for the stretch run with a team that’s established itself as a championship contender."

For now, it sounds as if Gonzalez really is retired, though, if the timing is right and the stars align, there could be a small comeback down the road.

Somewhere in Mississippi, Brett Favre just got an itch.
