The Denver Broncos, determined to improve their defense, have been linked to some of the biggest names in free agency.

Various rumors have linked them to Jared Allen and Darrelle Revis. They signed safety T.J. Ward. And who knows what rumors might come with the availability of pass rushers DeMarcus Ware and Julius Peppers?

But for all of that, one of the best moves they can make is to retain the services of one of their best players from last season. That would be cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The two sides have expressed mutual interest in a deal, and Judy Batista of NFL.com reports that those talks continued on day one of free agency:

DRC was steady all season, holding up in single coverage consistently as the Broncos tried to piece together the rest of their defense. Even with the price tag for corners going way up in recent days, the Broncos are wise to try and get this deal done.
