As soon as Minnesota Timberwolves’ head coach decided to call it a career and retire from the NBA on Monday, three huge names in the world of college basketball came up. Florida Gators’ head coach Billy Donovan, Michigan State Spartans’ head coach Tom Izzo and Iowa State Cyclones’ head coach Fred Hoiberg were all brought up in connection with the job.

Donovan accepted a job with the Orlando Magic in 2007, but backed out and returned to Florida. Instead, another apparent Wolves’ candidate, Stan Van Gundy, got the gig and did an excellent job.

Izzo’s name comes up every year.

Hoiberg is the most interesting name. He played for the Timberwolves from 2003-2005 and then worked as an assistant and in the Wolves’ front office.

However, the favorite to get the job is Flip Saunders, who coached the team from 1995-2005 and currently serves as the President of Basketball Operations.

Our friends over at Bovada have been kind enough to send over their complete odds.
